Half the weight of steel, effectively immune to seawater. The standard light metal of aerospace and defence.
Titanium is expensive and is not used everywhere. In three situations no other metal takes its place.
In chloride environments. Seawater, brine, bleaching chemicals. 316L pits in these conditions and super duplex holds up only so far; commercially pure titanium is effectively immune to seawater corrosion. In hot, stagnant seawater it is often the only safe option.
Where weight decides the design. Titanium has a density of 4.5 g/cm³ against 7.9 for steel — half the weight at comparable strength. In aircraft, UAVs, missiles and engine components that difference translates directly into range and payload.
Inside the human body. Titanium is biocompatible; Grade 23 to ASTM F136 is the standard for implants and surgical instruments.
Most of the Ti-6Al-4V produced worldwide goes into airframes, engine parts and fasteners. What these sectors expect differs from other industries: here the specification the material was released to matters more than the grade alone.
Where titanium stops. Ti-6Al-4V begins to lose strength above roughly 400–425 °C. That is why the hot section of an engine uses Inconel 718 or Hastelloy X rather than titanium. Cold section titanium, hot section nickel-based — that is roughly how material is distributed in aerospace.
In this sector "I need Grade 5 sheet" is not a complete enquiry. The specification, the heat treatment condition and the documentation required all need to be stated.

The same Grade 5 material ships with different mechanical values depending on the specification it was released to. If you do not state one, we will ask — the wrong release leads to the part being rejected.
Commercially pure titanium (Grades 1–4). Unalloyed titanium, numbered by carbon and oxygen content. Higher numbers mean higher strength and lower formability. Grade 1 for deep drawing and thin sheet work; Grade 2 is the industrial workhorse — heat exchangers, tanks, piping, anodes; Grades 3 and 4 for pressure equipment needing more strength.
Alloyed titanium (Grade 5, Grade 23). Ti-6Al-4V accounts for more than half of all titanium produced and is the standard aerospace and defence grade. AMS 4928 bar requires a minimum 120 ksi yield strength at room temperature. Grade 23 is the extra low interstitial (ELI) version of the same alloy, with better fracture toughness and cryogenic behaviour.
Grades for corrosion service. Grade 7 is palladium-bearing and goes far beyond pure titanium in reducing acids. Grade 12 is strengthened against crevice corrosion. Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) is a weldable medium-strength alloy used in tubing and hydraulic lines.

Sheet and plate, welded and seamless tube, bar and shaft, flanges, fittings, wire. Once we have your enquiry we source from European mills and stockists, then handle import and customs clearance ourselves.
We can deliver material cut to size. Cutting titanium carries a chip fire risk and the parameters differ from steel, so cutting is done by partners who know the material.
Material is delivered with the mill's original EN 10204 3.1 certificate. The heat number matches the certificate and marking is transferred on cut pieces. If you need 3.2, tell us before the order.
